LOST Final Episode

I just read my blog post from March 9 where I predicted that the hero would have to make a noble choice of self-sacrifice ... but not have a tragic ending ... that American tv likes happy endings. So ... being smug ... I was pretty accurate. But, I wasn't satisfied with the ending - not that it had to tie up everything in a neat bow, but the ending seem to make many of the previous episodes irrelevant and pointless  - very unsatisfying. In fact, I believe that that was not the original ending, but rather an ending that the tv executives insisted on ... probably people raised on Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. Obviously, most people come home from work tired and worn out, so they just want to watch something light and with a happy ending. But, from the start, LOST appeared to be much different from the typical tv fare and to really tackle some heavy-duty philosophy and psychology ... to wrestle with human motivation and meaning. So to wrap it up with a vague and sappy ending was pretty disappointing. It was about as much fun as watching the Yankees win the World Series.
